This note will address two recent announcements about the change in timings and the election-related holidays.
1.Regarding the change in timings of the school:
We delayed the start of the PYP and SS programs by 15 min. In response to this change, we have not received any response from the vast majority of parents.
However, we have received requests from 9 students (5 parents) for a swap in timings of PYP (Grade 1 to 6) and SS (Grade 7 to 12). The reason given is that a swap of the timings will give the PYP students more time to sleep and the SS students more time in the afternoon and evening for activities and coaching classes. We have maintained through the years that the reason for starting the SS later is that as children enter into the teen years, they tend to sleep later for multiple reasons (studying, social, biological). Therefore asking them to wake up early is likely to have adverse effects of their health.
While we don’t see any significant advantage with the swap in timings, we see consequential disadvantages of an upheaval of schedule for all the students including the vast majority who have not reacted to this change as well the loss of sleep and impact the health of SS students.
Therefore, we are sticking to the change as announced. We had also proposed a change in the timings for the Early Years students pending logistics for which we ran trial routes from April 9 to 12. We are happy to announce that the trial was successful. These are the final timings for students next year:

2. Regarding the holidays on 22-23 April due to Lok Sabha Elections:
The holidays are as announced for 22-23 April for students. The school buses have been requisitioned by the district authorities for the conduct of elections for both days (for logistical management of the EVMs and the election staff). Therefore both days are holidays. For the PYP and Early Years, we chose not to compensate (unlike previous years) because it’s the end of the year and curriculum requirements have been met already. For SS, there’s no need to compensate because the exam schedule was changed to accommodate the 2 holidays. We are clarifying this so that the reasoning is clear and that a precedent isn’t assumed for similar future events.
Please note that all the students who have opted for Product Design this year will be using the same sketchbook in the next academic year as well. So we request you all to keep it safe and please do not discard it.
Dear Students & Parents,
As per the Personal Project timeline, the students should have completed with their majority of the tasks like investigating, planning and taking action by the end of this academic year so that in the next academic year they can focus on the Reflection of their project.
Summer is a great time to complete the pending tasks and document the entire Personal Project process from brainstorming the topic to taking action on Student compendium.
All the students have to complete the following common tasks during the Summer holidays.
Personal Project Common Summer Assignment for uploading on Student Compendium:
1. Details about your Personal Project
- Why does this topic interests you
- What will be the final product
2. Global Context you have chosen and list the reasons why it is appropriate. (Concept map image from student handbook Page 20)
3.Mention the research work you have carried on till date/ you need to carry on (with citation)
4. Visible Thinking Routine template used for each objective
5. The progress of project till date with pieces of evidence
- Videos of interviews taken
- Videos/images of tasks carried out (For eg., Video of recipes cooked and its documentation – Preparation time, cooking time, ingredients required, cooking method, etc)
- Before and After video (if the project is of acquiring/enhancing some skills)
Apart from the above common tasks, students are required to complete the Personal Project Summer Assignment tasks assigned by their respective supervisors.
This summer vacation homework needs to be submitted on the first day of school itself. Students who come without completing their homework will have to face consequences.

VOICE – 2019
Objective: The year 2019-2020 marks the birth centenary of Dr. Vikram A. Sarabhai, the father of the Indian Space Programme. On account of this, Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad plans to conduct a Pan India level Essay Writing Competition.
Students from grades 8 to 12 can participate in this competition. The essay may contain motivation, goals, and uniqueness of the concept among other relevant things. 30 shortlisted students from each age group will be invited for presentation and visit to Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad. Shortlisted candidates will be provided with a 3 tier fare by railways on the shortest possible route to Ahmedabad. Boarding and lodging will be arranged by PRL during the authorised period of stay.

Topic: Home at a distant planet
Description: Say one day you have to move out of our planet Earth and settle on a different planet. Which planet you would choose? Then based on the planet specific parameters (e.g. atmospheric conditions, solar Insolation, crustal properties etc.), how will you design your home? Design should be sustainable, i.e., no external entity will provide any assistance to maintain your home. You must also provide the address of your home.
*Note: Sustainability of the home in the new planet will be the primary criteria for the evaluation.
Topic: Design innovative experiments for space station
Description: Imagine one day you are given an opportunity to design innovative experiments for the Indian Space Station. Design a suit of experiments (maximum two) to address a particular theme. Mention why you chose the theme and how your experiments can provide a better understanding.
Success Criteria: (without which the essay will be disqualified)
- Word limit: 3000 words
- Summary – 300 words
- Major concepts – 3 bullets not exceeding 75 words
- Conclusion – Not more than 200 words
- Essay should be written in English
- Should be written by a single person

A gentle reminder regarding Term 2 exam, which will be starting from 18th April 2019.

We invite applications for the selection of the Secretariat for Fountainhead School Model United Nations 2019-20. We are looking for students who are willing to grab this opportunity and become part of the Secretariat of the 6th Edition of this Event.
The following are the positions and responsibilities.
1. Secretary General:
Acts as the head of the conference, this person has the responsibility to find the correct Executive Board members for this event, as well as keep a tab on the study guide and the overall academics of the conference.
- Under Secretary General for Conference Management:
This position is critical to the success of the conference because s/he oversees every logistical aspect of the conference that includes setup of rooms, signage for delegates, registration, making sure that copies of draft resolutions are disseminated to delegates during Committee proceedings. Another area of focus is the Management of the Organizing Committee during the conference.
- Under Secretary General for Communications & Public Relations:
Responsibility to raise the visibility of the conference by managing all delegate affairs and being in charge of social media. Also has to focus on promoting the conference and searching for delegates across the city and state and handling all delegate registrations and queries before the conference.
- Under Secretary General for Economic & Social Affairs:
Creating Study guides alongside the chairperson/s and engaging in content management for the conference. Will be responsible for the thorough implementation of the Rules of Procedure and is responsible for aiding in topic selection.
Final date to fill the form is 10th April 2019.
