It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the Sixth edition of Fountainhead School Model United Nations, on 24th August to 25th August 2019.

It is one of the most prestigious conferences in Surat, hosting over 100 high school delegates each year. FSMUN forms communities, uniting delegates from all over India to debate and attempt to resolve some of the most daunting and grave issues from around the world. FSMUN provides an opportunity for delegates to debate, think critically, synergize, and gain the ability to lead and negotiate.

In our sixth year, we are deeply honoured to continue FSMUN’s legacy, a unique focus on diplomacy, international relations, and social change. We pride ourselves on providing you with the most extensive delegate experience possible, complete with our comprehensive background guides to individualized feedback.

The fees for this year include the cost of two day conference, study guides, brilliant chairs and mentors, food and drink, delegate kits as well as a brilliant socials party.

Important changes in Uniform policy for 2019-20

Dear Parents and Students,

Based on feedback from various stakeholders, we have made a few changes in the school uniform policy. You must refer to the attachment to understand the policy in detail, and the reasons for the changes along with the reference images. The key changes are mentioned briefly here:

  • Track Pants (unicolour – dark greys, navy blue or black) are allowed any time during the year. School trousers will no longer be available. However, anyone wishing to use any existing pair can do so. For Senior School students, for labs and for field trips, track pants or the old school trousers are necessary.
  • Shoes and socks of any colour are now allowed. Students of ALL grades can now bring their own bags. Those shoes, socks and bags with any graphics such as cartoon prints, characters or symbols from TV, movies or books or shoes with light or sound ARE NOT ALLOWED. For Early Years students, only velcro shoes are allowed.
  • New sports specific shorts have been introduced in the school store based on the feedback from the students and coaches.
  • For PS classes, students can dress according to the requirement of their chosen sport which meets these two requirements: (a) Other than the regular items specified above, students can wear those jerseys or bottoms that have been made for a school-specific tournament (for e.g. inter-school football, basketball team, school Ultimate Frisbee teams, district or state teams). (b) These cannot be worn during PE or any other class. It is the student’s responsibility to change to school uniform after the PS classes.

IGCSE Final Exam Seating Plan 2019

Dear Students,

As you are aware that IGCSE Final Exam is starting from 29th April 2019. You are required to refer to the given sheet for the exam venue details

Important Instructions:.

Please take a note of the following important points for the upcoming IGCSE examinations.

  1. No transport will be provided for the final IGCSE exams starting from 29th April. The students should come by their own conveyance.
  2. It is compulsory to carry ID- cards for all examinations and the students should be dressed in complete uniform will have to face the consequence.
  3. Students can bring a bottle of water and stationary pouch (transparent only), which they can carry in the examination room.
  4. Pantry will be closed on all days. Students can carry a snack to eat before or after the examination.
  5. All students should reach school at least 30 minutes before the time of the examination.
  6. Please note that writing is allowed only in black or dark blue, highlighter pens are not allowed, colors can be used for diagrams/maps etc. Please carry a pencil for the MCQ papers. Pencil case should be transparent. Else it will not be allowed in the examination room.
  7. The Admit cards (Statement of Entry) will be given to the students on the day of each examination which should be returned to the invigilators after the examination is completed.
  8. The students are expected to sit in the order of candidate number, as placed on the desks.
  9. Full center supervision – The key time for our center is 10:30 for the morning session and 2.30 for the afternoon session. This means that if the paper ends at 10:00 am, then the students will be under full center supervision. During this time, the students will be monitored within school premises and you are not allowed to have mobile phones or use any communication device, including the internet, during Full Centre Supervision. You can have books and revision notes with you during Full Centre Supervision. You can talk to each other during Full Centre Supervision, but you must not during the exam.  Do not leave the room until you are given permission to do so. If you need to leave the room you must be supervised by a member of staff. If you feel unwell during Full Centre Supervision tell the person in charge of the session. Students are expected to cooperate during full center supervision.
  1. Students will not be able to leave the examination hall during the start and end of the exam (30 minutes).
  2. For Listening Exam, students will have to write the exam silently without any disturbance as the audio will be played only one time.

Chrome OS Management Console (perpetual license): This console will enable the school administration to configure and manage each Chromebook with ease, and will allow us to add security features (such as user restriction, app restriction) as well allow many value-added features such as making an app landing page, online testing etc. This console needs to be bought only once with every device at the price of ₹2832 inclusive of all taxes. This price is valid only for bulk educational purchases. Regular license cost is almost double the current price.

Advance payment

We are asking for an advance payment by 10th May because in order to receive the Chromebooks in July, we need to place an order with the vendor by the second week of May. It takes 15-20 days to compile and send the order to the vendor and the delivery takes almost 6-8 weeks. After delivery, the school requires upto 15 days to test and configure all the Chromebooks before they are handed over to the students.

  • Kindly note that the school has no commercial interest in this transaction
  • Parents can buy a Chromebook on their own, if they wish to. In this case, the parents will only be buying the CMC from school. School will intimate them as to when to send the device for installation of the console.
  • Balance Payment to be made in June before the device is handed over to the student
  • The total cost mentioned above is currently based on the minimum quotation that we have received from Google resellers. In case, we get a lower quotation, we will apply, update and charge accordingly

In the first week of July 2019, we will arrange the handover of Chromebook to the parents. Clarifications about School timings and Elections-related holidays

Clarifications about School timings and Elections-related holidays

Dear Parents,

This note will address two recent announcements about the change in timings and the election-related holidays.

 

1.Regarding the change in timings of the school:

We delayed the start of the PYP and SS programs by 15 min. In response to this change, we have not received any response from the vast majority of parents.

However, we have received requests from 9 students (5 parents) for a swap in timings of PYP (Grade 1 to 6) and SS (Grade 7 to 12). The reason given is that a swap of the timings will give the PYP students more time to sleep and the SS students more time in the afternoon and evening for activities and coaching classes. We have maintained through the years that the reason for starting the SS later is that as children enter into the teen years, they tend to sleep later for multiple reasons (studying, social, biological). Therefore asking them to wake up early is likely to have adverse effects of their health.

While we don’t see any significant advantage with the swap in timings, we see consequential disadvantages of an upheaval of schedule for all the students including the vast majority who have not reacted to this change as well the loss of sleep and impact the health of SS students.

Therefore, we are sticking to the change as announced. We had also proposed a change in the timings for the Early Years students pending logistics for which we ran trial routes from April 9 to 12. We are happy to announce that the trial was successful. These are the final timings for students next year:

2. Regarding the holidays on 22-23 April due to Lok Sabha Elections:

The holidays are as announced for 22-23 April for students. The school buses have been requisitioned by the district authorities for the conduct of elections for both days (for logistical management of the EVMs and the election staff). Therefore both days are holidays. For the PYP and Early Years, we chose not to compensate (unlike previous years) because it’s the end of the year and curriculum requirements have been met already. For SS, there’s no need to compensate because the exam schedule was changed to accommodate the 2 holidays. We are clarifying this so that the reasoning is clear and that a precedent isn’t assumed for similar future events.

Dear Students,

We invite applications for the selection of the Secretariat for Fountainhead School Model United Nations 2019-20. We are looking for students who are willing to grab this opportunity and become part of the Secretariat of the 6th Edition of this Event.

The following are the positions and responsibilities.

1. Secretary General:

Acts as the head of the conference, this person has the responsibility to find the correct Executive Board members for this event, as well as keep a tab on the study guide and the overall academics of the conference.

  1. Under Secretary General for Conference Management:

This position is critical to the success of the conference because s/he oversees every logistical aspect of the conference that includes setup of rooms, signage for delegates, registration, making sure that copies of draft resolutions are disseminated to delegates during Committee proceedings. Another area of focus is the Management of the Organizing Committee during the conference.

  1. Under Secretary General for Communications & Public Relations:

Responsibility to raise the visibility of the conference by managing all delegate affairs and being in charge of social media. Also has to focus on promoting the conference and searching for delegates across the city and state and handling all delegate registrations and queries before the conference.

  1. Under Secretary General for Economic & Social Affairs:

Creating Study guides alongside the chairperson/s and engaging in content management for the conference. Will be responsible for the thorough implementation of the Rules of Procedure and is responsible for aiding in topic selection.
